Grass Roots ERG Completes 2024 Commute Green Challenge

Recently, our Grass Roots Employee Resource Group (ERG) completed its 2024 Commute Green Challenge. In honor of Zero Emissions Day on September 21, the challenge took place from July 1 to September 30.

The green commuting challenge was a competition between nVent's three business segments and enterprise employees to log the most green-commuting distance. Throughout the three-month long challenge, Grass Roots encouraged all its members and nVent employees to commute greenas much as possible. Employees could bike, walk, drive an electric vehicle, carpool or take public transportation.

In total, 78 nVent employees commuted over 60,000 miles adding up to 25,000 kg CO2 diverted from the atmosphere, surpassing the ERG’s goal of 40,000 miles. Additionally, 1,000 trees will be planted in celebration through #teamtrees.org.

Last year, 76 nVent employees commuted over 60,000 miles adding up to 25,000 kg CO2 diverted from the atmosphere. Due to the success of last year’s campaign, the ERG increased its goal, aiming to have employees collectively replace 40,000 miles of transportation with cleaner and greener alternatives.

“We were unsure if a goal of 40,000 miles was too much, but our employees rose to the challenge and we exceeded our goal by over 20,000 miles,” said Frances Dunscombe, Contracts Manager and Co-Chair of Grass Roots. “It’s inspiring to see the engagement from around the world and witness the desire our employees have to be more sustainable. We’re very grateful to all that participated in the challenge and to see our results continue to grow year on year.”

With the words "Give our planet one day off", Ken Wallace launched Zero Emissions Day in Canada in 2008 and since then, the initiative has been heard internationally. The idea behind Zero Emissions Day is to raise awareness of the enormous impact that the use of fossil fuels has on the environment and the global climate. For this reason, September 21 is intended to mark a day of pause for the Earth by renouncing the use of oil, natural gas and coal as much as possible.

Congratulations to our Grass Roots ERG for another successful Commute Green Challenge!
