Local Renewable Energy Installations

nVent Increasing Focus on Local Renewable Energy Installations

At nVent, we are committed to reducing our impact on natural resources. An important consideration in that work is drawing on more renewable energy. Alongside improving our operational efficiency to drive energy savings, we also are addressing how we source the energy we consume across the company. In late 2022, nVent switched on our first on-site renewable installation in Tilburg, Netherlands. The installation is expected to generate 580,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy per year.

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) values are a key part of our business strategy. We have committed to reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% and drawing more than 25% of our energy consumption from renewable sources by 2030. With office, manufacturing and distribution centers around the world, placing solar panel arrays on or near our facilities is a great investment to add green energy to the grid as well as to produce ourselves more of the electricity we consume.

Completing these projects also has helped us define and execute a process for pursuing solar installations that will help us make more sustainability investments. Work already has begun on solar installations in Leuven, Belgium and in Straubenhardt, Germany. Both projects are on track to be completed in the first half of 2023. Along with the solar panels, our team in Straubenhardt also installed EV charging infrastructure, with plans to expand it and add even more chargers this year.

“Reducing our impact on the environment is a process that takes many kinds of investments—from examining and adjusting our manufacturing processes to making decisions about where we get our energy,” said Joel Pettit, Director of Environmental, Health and Safety. “It is exciting to see nVent make these initial investments in on-site renewables, and even more exciting to think about how they lay the groundwork for future sustainability work.”

In addition to making investments in our own renewable energy systems, we also are helping customers in renewable energy scale up and operate more efficiently. From enclosures for transformers and combiners in solar installations, to electrical connectors and surge protection across many renewable energy industries, to lightning protection for wind turbines, nVent solutions play a critical role supporting green energy generation.

As the world becomes more sustainable and electrified, nVent will continue to pursue opportunities to drive sustainability in our operations as well as for our customers. Investing in solar energy installations is an important step towards an increasingly decarbonized and renewable future for nVent.
